So for the last 6 months I've been using this cooler on my 18 JLUR with the electric power steering system. I had no idea how much heat the electric motor generated and how little fluid is in the system. I also have hydro assist now for the last few months and my Jeep is performing flawlessly and I don't get any warnings on the EVIC anymore! the quality on this is professional level racing.. and you could honestly use this cooler for other fluids in other applications if you are creative with the mounting and its serviceable! so you can clean it and put it back together! this is nothing short of Perfection!
the installation is not difficult. goes in per instructions and JL Life video.... it is time consuming and there will be a lot of test fitting and possibly some modification of supplied brackets. I did not remove my after market bumper or winch or inner fender liner. I did not have a sway bar disconnect mechanism to get in the way so i had good access from below and above with only the air box and grill removed.
What I noticed after install was that my steering was a bit more crisp; possibly because of all new fluid. At 14k miles the old fluid was pretty dark and dirty, two Texas summers. So surely the increased volume of PS fluid that the Apex cooler adds has got to be a good thing.
If you are looking to solve your JL-JT steering slop this is probably not your silver bullet, just one step added to a track bar that uses Hiem joints, Rock Krawler, Synergy tack bar/sector shaft brace, and some type of steering stabilizer relocation bracket that adds stiffness to the axle side track bar bracket. Then you can think about an aftermarket drag link and tie rod... and hydro assist...
sorry to be the bearer of expensive news but "it's a JEEP THING"
Great addition to the gang...
Planing to fit hydraulic winch to the steering power , this will enhance cooling the oil for sure
This is an amazing product from an even more amazing company! Cant wait for new Apex Performance products in the near future!
